Bird Flu Kills Chinese Man: Report

A 39-year-old Chinese bus driver died of bird flu (H5N1) today, according to Chinese media.

Chinese officials said the flu strain that caused the man’s death is likely contagious. They also said live poultry shipments to Hong Kong have been stopped.

Vigil Held For Boy Killed By Stray Bullet

The north Minneapolis community held a vigil today for the 3-year-old boy who died after being struck in the head by a stray bullet in his own home.

Community leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, spoke at the event. Many pleaded for the violence to stop.

Syrian Opposition Groups Unite To Map The Future

Opposition groups in Syria have signed a draft outlining how a democratic government might function in the country if mass protests succeed in driving the country’s president, Bashar al-Assad, from power.

The draft says that: as soon as Assad’s regime falls a “transitional period” would begin by preserving all state institutions and then drafting a new constitution that guarantees a “civilian pluralist parliamentary democratic system”. A new parliament and president would then be elected.

Police Looking For Phony Cop

Police are looking for a man who dressed up like a cop and pulled a woman over for a traffic stop.

Police said the man drove a white and black car with a little red “bubble” light on top. He is 6-feet tall, in his 30s and has a salt-and-pepper beard, police said.

He also had red, swollen skin about his eyes and a voice that sounded as if he suffered from a soar throat.

Lake City Officer Wounded By Gunman Dies: Mayo

Patrol Officer Shawn Schneider died tonight at the Mayo Clinic, according to a hospital spokesperson.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the head while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Dec. 19.
