I tried to hold my tongue yesterday, when I saw the cover, but do the editors and photographers have nothing original and new to say?

And for a magazine (i-D) that is only in print 6 times a year now you would think they go the extra mile to not go in to print 3 times a year.

While it was fun, a year or so ago, to look back and reminisce the 90's faces, the over explosion and the copy cat that took place afterward, by the magazines, was quiet sad, then silly, and now plain annoying.

Move on already, you scared cats, and bring us something fresh. These girls made their millions, so stop shooting your own feet away. [Images via]

During the week one of our readers – wedding photographer Martin Whitton – shot me a list of his ‘10 rules for editing digital images’. I thought I’d share them today as a discussion starter for readers.

Martin comments that ‘these ideas may seem a little elementary, but sticking to the basics keeps our editing focused, maintains consistency from image to image and keeps our clients happy’.

Tone of space (a room, for example) should be balanced and neutral, with no overall bias;
Blacks (like tuxes) should be black;
Whites (like wedding gowns) should be white;
Don’t over-saturate images (my personal pet peeve)! Final edited image should be representative of what the human eye saw when photographing occurred;
Flesh tones should be realistic and consistent. If he looks red and she looks pale white, something’s probably wrong;
Image should be level or straight. Use reference points within image to determine this;
Fix and remove any “red-eye” issues when flash is used;
Sharpen all images last, and do it sparingly;
Save images based on their intended use; images being posted online can be as small as 500 kb. Images that will be printed should probably be 1-2 mb (minimum);
For easy tracking and identification, rename/save images based on the event, like – “Jane & John Wedding 1”.

These are Martin’s 10 ‘rules’ and no doubt they’ll be debated by readers- what are yours? Do you have any? What would you add or subtract from Martin’s list?

Of course there’s no wrong or right in this as personal style and approach comes into play – but we’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

這兩個月，不知道各位 Netvigator 的用戶有否發覺晚間連線的速度比平常慢了許多

我知香港寬頻方面的 PR 有找 blogger 作「置入性行銷」宣傳，不過以下這一篇，是「堅o野」，我真的轉了去香港寬頻。

(利益申報：可能我不夠紅，他們的 PR 完全沒有找過我呀o下~)

以香港寬頻為首的網絡商減價戰，作為平民客人，實在是坐享漁人之利，HKD$99/100Mb 光纖上網，可以說是以本傷人。和記 3 也緊隨其後，街上見到的那些「易拉架」sales 都立即轉了新的 banner，不過我本人極憎和記 3 (這又是另一個故事)，誓死不用他們的服務。

我本來用的是 Netvigator 網上行，8Mb「寬」頻，一直用了有八年，是枚老客戶。原本的合約早於兩年前約滿，但我又懶，於是任其每月繳交 HKD$168 也沒打算理會。早兩個月前收到一個宣傳說是 on top 加 HKD$38 可以變做 30Mb，好像是 18 個月合約......我不知道他們的 marketing 是怎樣「度」出這些服務計劃來...... 當全世界都在減價，我看不到有理由要再加錢轉去原本就該屬於我的「真正」寬頻喎。

這兩個月，不知道各位 Netvigator 的用戶有否發覺晚間連線的速度比平常慢了許多，有如回歸 56K 般過份，甚至有「lag」的情形出現。一向用 Netvigator 只是貪其穩定性還有 CS 的服務態度好，現在連唯一的優點都沒有了。不過以上皆只為導火線，真正讓我「引爆」的，其實是他們提供的另一個「優惠」計劃。話說某天收到他們的另一個宣傳，說是可以免費升級至 30Mb，要簽合約 30 個月，sales 在電話旁邊還不停說什麼「好抵」云云......

&*^*Z@*(Y%^%！你當客人是傻瓜嗎？還是真的老襯？要是兩個月之前我簽了你們那個又是所謂「好抵」的優惠，我現在是不是要度住個心口來揼？碰巧香港寬頻推出新優惠，加上問過我家是有 100MB 的覆蓋，也不作他想，立即轉台去。

香港寬頻「極速普及人人喜動」 TVC (題外話，這次廣告本身 creative 相當麻麻地，那架跑車是所謂何事？)

簡單寫一下大概的收費給有興趣的人知道。

HKD$99 / 100 MB x 24 個月約 + HKD$300 安裝費 + HKD$300 預繳 (第四期起分 4 期每期 HKD$99+$3 退還)

另外他們也提供本地網站八成速度保證，好過 Netvigator 多多聲，Netvigator 話就話 8Mb，我用了那麼多年，連 1 Mb 都無見過！(也不說那些龜速幾 kb 幾 kb 計的上傳，好彩「Nike 神」不用 Netvigator。) 你還要我相信他們那個 30Mb 真的有 30Mb 嗎？100Mb 光纖才是王道！

而且我頗喜歡香港寬頻的宣傳點子，(有點兒像傳銷) 舊有客戶介紹兩個新客戶的話(合約期內)就可以完全免費，所以在各大討論區都可以見到有「招上線」的帖子，而我的「上線」則是一位在高登隨便找來的巴打！

I love designs that are misleading. Kinds that look like one thing but actually function as something else. Take the case of this reNEW Solar Battery Charger. It looks like this neat decorative frame that hangs on your window (via the suction cup) or sits pretty on a table. In reality it’s a solar charger for your re-chargeable batteries. Slide the batteries down the back of the frame, into the protective charging pouch, and when it’s all juiced up, pluck it out from the bottom.

Kinda like the rolling toaster grill; when the toast’s done it glides to the end of the rack; only this charger concept is the vertical, sophisticated version.

甲色變灰：
指甲呈灰色，多是由於缺氧造成，一般在抽煙者中比較常見；而對於不吸煙的人，指甲突然變成灰色，最大的可能便是患上甲癬，初期指甲邊緣會發癢，繼而指甲還會變形，失去光澤變成灰白色。

失去光澤：
如果整個指甲都像毛玻璃一樣，完全沒有絲毫光澤的話，那就反映體內存在著某些慢性消耗性疾病，例如結核病等；或是像肝膿瘍、肺膿瘍或長期慢性出血等嚴重的消耗性疾病。

豎紋：
當指甲表面不夠光滑，出現一條條的直紋時，通常反映操勞過度、用腦過度的狀態，尤其在在睡眠不足的時候，這些豎紋會很清楚地顯現出來。若豎紋持續地存在，那就可能是體內器官的慢性病變，如果不加以調養，隨著病情的發展，指甲會變得高低不平，甚至會裂開。
