Young up-and-comer Mickey Pye dropped by the ABC Country studio to lay down some tunes and explain how he’s going to change country music in Australia.

Fresh off the back of his long, hot trip to Gympie in Queensland where he took out first prize at the National Music Muster Talent Search competition and had a close encounter with a curious goanna, Mickey Pye joined us in the studio to record three of his favourite songs.

‘Got the Feeling' is 21-year-old Mickey's new single, ‘It Keeps Me Alive' won him his Gympie trophy, and ‘Lover of Yourself' is an oldie (but a goodie) that he wrote back in high school.

Description:

The song is a ballad about a lonely person homesick for returning to his Oklahoma home and his lover. It has a common theme of abandoned love, appealing to a wide audience, and one that people can identify worldwide with the hurt and pain of a vanished loved affair. Apparently, the person which the song is aspired has gone leaving Oklahoma only to find no happiness on the road to other places and other faces. Tired of what the song refers to as "...chasin' dreams that don't come true", the person finds reality in his homeward bound to Oklahoma. The person still has feelings for the other person and reminisces about the beauty he left behind in Oklahoma and his true love.

US musician Glen Campbell is gearing up for another Australian tour, with a series of eight concerts on the east coast.

The 73 year old Grammy Award winning musician and composer will head down under this November and December, sharing the stage with his daughter, Debby Campbell, who is a renowned vocalist in her own rite. Campbell will also bring his US rhythm section for performances in Townsville, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Tamworth, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

Campbell's last visit to our shores was in 2008, when he performed with the Sydney Symphony and West Australian Symphony with guest vocalist, Beccy Cole.

ABC Country joined more than 25,000 country music lovers, camping under canvas, sweltering in the heat and dust, kicking up our heels and enjoying some great tunes.

It was an unusually hot, dry and dusty six days and nights of great music, entertainment, camping and camaraderie at the National Music Muster, the nation's second largest country music festival after Tamworth, held during the last week of August over 50 hectares of beautiful bushland in south-east Queensland's Amamoor State Forest.

Rising star Tori dropped by to treat us to live renditions of four tracks from her self-titled debut EP and to chat about her influences and approach to songwriting.

The record features some of Australia's leading musicians and was recorded with renowned musician and producer, Simon Johnson. Tori worked with some of Australia's finest songwriters when writing the tracks for the EP; Allan Caswell (Karma), Drew McAlister (Not My Time To Fly) and Roger Corbett (You Better Run).

Gram Parsons (November 5, 1946 – September 19, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist. Parsons was a member of the International Submarine Band, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. He was later a solo artist who recorded and performed duets with Emmylou Harris. Parsons died of a drug overdose at the age of 26 in a hotel room in Joshua Tree, California. Since his death, he has been attributed to helping to found both country rock and alt-country. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him #87 on their list of the 100 Most Influential Artists of All Time.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country-folk-rock band that has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California in 1966. The group's membership has had at least a dozen iterations over the years, including a period from 1976 to 1981 when the band performed and recorded as The Dirt Band. Constant members since the early days are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmy Fadden. Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen was with the band from 1966 to 1986 and returned in 2001. Keyboardist Bob Carpenter joined the band in 1977. The band's hits include a cover version of Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles". Albums include 1972's Will the Circle Be Unbroken, featuring such traditional country artists Mother Maybelle Carter, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff, Merle Travis and Jimmy Martin. A follow-up album based on the same concept, Will the Circle Be Unbroken: Volume Two was released in 1989, was certified gold and won two Grammy Awards and was named Album of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards.

Hank Williams (September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953) was an American singer and songwriter and musician who has become an icon of country music and one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century. A leading pioneer of the honky tonk style, he had numerous hit records, and his charismatic performances and succinct compositions increased his fame. His songbook is one of the backbones of country music, and several of his songs are pop standards as well. He has been covered in a range of pop, gospel, blues and rock styles. His death at the age of twenty-nine helped fuel his legend. His son Hank Williams, Jr., nicknamed "Bocephus", his daughter Jett Williams, and his grandchildren (Shelton) Hank Williams III, Holly Williams, and Hilary Williams are also professional singers.

Kasey Chambers (born 4 June 1976) is an Australian alternative country singer-songwriter. She is the daughter of steel guitar player Bill Chambers, and the sister of musician and producer Nash Chambers. In 1986, the family formed the Dead Ringer Band with Bill and Diane as the initial members and Kasey and Nash joining the band a year later. By 1992, the band had become full time musicians with Bill Chambers writing many of the band's songs. Bill Chambers wrote a song for Slim Dusty called "Things Just Aren't the Same on the Land" in 1992 which won the "Song of the Year" in the Country Music Awards. Their first album "Red Desert Sky" was released in 1993 on the independent Import Records label. The Dead Ringer Band signed with EMI shortly after and released their second album "Home Fires" in 1995. It contained the single "Australian Son" which topped the Australian country charts and won an Australian ARIA award for Country song of the year in 1996. The band won a Golden Guitar Award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for "Band of the Year" in 1995 and a Mo Award for best country music group a year later. The band released Living in the Circle in 1997 and Hopeville in 1998. However, the Dead Ringer Band broke up in 1998 when Bill and Diane Chambers separated with Diane moving to Norfolk Island. The Dead Ringer band collectively earned two ARIA awards and seven Golden Guitars during their career. To date Kasey Chambers has sold almost 1.2 million records The band became the inspiration for other family bands, such as The Lees. She currently lives in Copacabana on the NSW central coast.
