The November 6th ballot for Cutler Bay residents is approximately 11-12 pages long. You can download and print out your individual copy of the ballot by visiting http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/. The Voices of Cutler Bay recommend APPROVAL of most of the amendments … Continue reading →

You can download and print out your individual copy of the ballot by visiting http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/.

The Voices of Cutler Bay recommend APPROVAL of most of the amendments to the Charter of Cutler Bay. The exceptions are:

Formal Recognitions to be Made By Council or Individual Council member with Majority Consent of Council
While there is no formal procedure for Council recognitions, this amendment adds unnecessary complexity, opens the door for unseemly public debate about private citizens eligibility, and infringes on the mayor’s duty to represent the Town for ceremonial purposes. It also creates the need for additional meetings and wastes taxpayers money staffing those meetings.
Please Vote NO by selecting # 269

Providing for Non-Resident, Non-Voting Members of Town Boards, Agencies and Committees
“Citizen” advisory boards, agencies, and committees should consist of citizens. Non-voting members would create unnecessary complexity and distraction to the already difficult tasks of deliberation and consent. Boards, agencies, and committees already have the ability to request input and/or advice from non-residents, if they so desire.
Please Vote NO by selecting # 285.

Restriction on Consecutive Service on a Charter Revision Commission as a Voting Member
Why limit the Council in choosing whom they feel can provide a meaningful service to the Town? The charter review commission meets every 6 years and there is a small pool of residents willing to serve the long hours required for this commission.
Please Vote NO by selecting #289.

Let's give this one a new twist. You can vote for a man and a woman. You may write in a candidate (as a third choice)

Although all the candidates are politicians, remember this is strictly based on looks (superficial), not politics. Whether you like the rugged or classically beautiful, you will find some great choices here. This is a light-hearted exercise. I hope the nominees are good sports and that we can all have fun without trashing any of the candidates. (I will run this for a few days, but get your votes in!!)

Links to contests in the past...
2011 Winner was Kirsten Jacobs
2009 Winner was Oscar Braynon
2009 Broward: Keith London
2010 was an Ethically Challenged Beauty Contest
2008: Marco Rubio was a candidate!

SDM was watching an interview with CBS reporter Sharyl Atkisson’s last night and freaked out a little.

Atkisson is an investigative reporter who has published stories that give elected officials bad days. She has investigated scandals in the Bush and Obama administrations, including most recently some hard hitting pieces on the Benghazi scandal.

Atkisson reported to her bosses some odd occurrences that she believes are not coincidences:

“There were just signs of unusual happenings for many months, odd behavior like the computers just turning themselves on at night and then turning themselves back off again. I was basically able to verify and obtain information from my sources on the suspicious activity and I reported it to CBS News in January because of course it included CBS equipment and systems.”

How can a computer be turned on remotely? You have to figure that whoever is hacking this woman’s computers is a serious player in the espionage world. CBS hired independent consultants that confirmed Atkisson’s claims and it appears federal authorities are now investigating. Atkisson explained why someone might want to know what she was writing about:

“Whoever was in my work computer, the only thing I was working on were work-related things with CBS were big stories I guess during the time period in questions were I guess Benghazi and ‘Fast and Furious.’ The intruders did have access to personal information including passwords to my financial accounts and so on, but didn’t tamper with those, so they weren’t interested in stealing my identity or doing things to my finances. So people can decide on their own what they might have been trying to do in there.”

SDM sure hopes the Stanczyk administration isn’t hiring the same hackers to go after us!

What really freaked us out was this last quote, which is terribly understated:

“We’re continuing to move forward aggressively, CBS News takes this very seriously, as do I. I think whenever an unauthorized party comes into the home of an American, whether it’s any private citizen or journalist and gets in their house, searches their computers — these are computers my family uses — and they’re inserting or removing material for whatever their reasons are, I think that’s a really serious and disturbing matter and we’re gonna follow it up and keep pursuing it.”

Really serious and disturbing?!?! SDM would call it un-American and criminal.

SDM Says: Of all the scandals so far uncovered, this one really could rise to the level of a “Watergate.” If any federal agency or government person was involved in directly hacking a reporter’s computer, especially when that reporter’s work presents a political threat to a sitting elected or appointed official, then the culprit and everyone in his or her chain-of-command should be looking at jail time.

Take a stand! Mayor MacDougall's actions are in stark contrast to what is NOT happening in Palmetto Bay.

Mayor MacDougall states that he has attended the last two MDX board meetings and was so disappointed by the lack of attendance by our elected officials at these critical hearings. Incredibly, he was the only elected official to watch the MDX board actions.

He is asking for you, the taxpayers to get involved in the MDX process, that (a)lthough these important hearings are public there is a sparse audience and the board seems to act in a bubble without any thought to the people who travel these roads daily.

I personally join Mayor MacDougall in thanking the efforts of the grassroots group, RollBackTolls.com, these MDX issues are getting the attention they deserve.

Thank you Mayor MacDougall. Be sure to let your neighboring counterpart know when it is safe to surface and take part in issues of regional importance. She has been strangely silent on this issue as well.

Note that this is not the first complaint I have issued regarding a strange lack of leadership within Palmetto Bay's current electeds. See:
A great example of action, follow through, by the Village of Pinecrest on Neighborhood Protection; and
Update on the 3/19 MDX South MIami-Dade meeting.
