Ok....I follow your logic about blogging about blogging and having ads about blogging. I didn't know all blogs were related, thought each was analyzed on it's on.

I have 3 blogger blogs. One is a charity knit and crochet to benefit the homeless. I had adsense on it until about 2 wks ago. I deleted it because I never got clicks. So, I'm sorta with ya; it seemed my ads never changed; they weren't good ads in that mostly they were a page like an index list. They were hats, scarves, and not much more than that. Since my visitors to that blog were mostly fellow knitters and crocheters who helped me by making and donating it seemed pointless. They weren't going to click on an ad for a hat...most have adsense on their own blogs as well.

My oldest blog is more of a personal blog, though it's changed alot over the last several years, so ads vary quite a bit there based on my particular post. I rather liked this, thinking it was variety and not the same thing over and over; though it's not really producing either.

My newest blog is my travel blog. The one connected to EC. It gets more visitors, adsense is there, producing minimally. I have joined directories, social networks as I keep reading get your name out there everywhere, get the links etc. But, how does one build traffic through search engines without being involved in social networks to become known? I see tons of blogs with 20-30 badges of the stuff they belong to. I hear people saying they're making money, so....I'm confused and frustrated.

I seem to rank well in multiple areas; but the clicks on slow.

I was hoping for more information. I've been using adsense and not doing well with it. My niche was yarn, knitting, crocheting, charity related to those topics. I have a reasonable following and get what appears to be more than the normal amount of return commentors. However, they too are people involved in yarn, knitting, crocheting, and charity and so don't click on the ads as they too have them. Nothing new for them I guess I've decided.

Not by choice, but life took a turn. My mother was in the hospital for a very long stay, to keep my readers current I posted about my Mother. These are people/bloggers that I've chatted with over several years. We do care about each other. My ads changed to those topics, and my adsense picked up a tiny bit. Sadly, a week ago Mom passed and I've been writing tributes because thats whats on my mind. I get tons of impressions, but very few clicks. Regardless of the topic, can you offer a suggestion?

Forgot I had read this before, but now re-reading it brings me to another question. lol Sorry, this is how I learn. I see the logic here and have used some of this in my blog. I have the ad on the side, and at the end of the post. But, in order to place on top I have to many. In the template when you select locations, you get one beneath associated with one on the side; but you get up to 3 beneath I think. I mean beneath each of 3 posts...which then gives you too many to adde one to the top. How do I accomplish that?

Hey, great post and great topic! I am going to throw one more thing into this mix though.

Targeted content is good...IF...there are ads for that content. In other words, having a blog with perfectly targeted content for giant twine balls is great, but if there are no ads (or the ads only pay .01 or .02) you've done a lot of work for nothing.

If you have a well formatted blog and limit the display of posts to only one per page, you can literally write about anything and get appropriate adsense ads. Case in point are blogs that follow Google Trends. Since the posts are about whatever topic is hot on Google, they are guaranteed to be different, no targeted content. but if you write a good post, 150 words or so, you can get the right ads.

Anyway, again, great post. Keep up the great work.

I've been playing around with a couple of my blogs "Titles" & Google, I found that I can use keywords & they show up great in Google, better than meta tags.

Then I got to looking at big sites like Amazon, & Ebay, they both use keywords on their homepage "Tiles", clever. :)

All I know is it does work.

I have 1 blog that I hard code the keywords into the "Title", works great for Google Search, ranking.

That is true.. Google does whatever it wishes to maintain the quality of search engine results.

But we too do mistakes by selling our blog posts for few dollars or less than ten dollars. Remember, using adwords, we have to pay about 10 dollars just to get 100 visitors. But we give away a blog post that means we are sending as many visitors to that sponsored company as our blog gets over time. That can be as much as 300 visitors if your blog has a page rank of 2. For highly popular blogs (PR=4), that can mean 3000 visitors. That means we should get $300 right? for the work and sacrifice we are doing.

This is my conclusion after studying website traffic and its price in general and the way these payperpost websites cheat us to get huge targeted traffic to those companies. There is no point in sponsoring for under $10. Unless that ad gives us more than $100, it is not really worth the effort.

You might want to clarify that $2 CPM is the "premium" rate, paid for google and other search hits, while what seems to be $1 CPM is paid out for most other traffic, especially Stumble Upon, Reddit, Entrecard and the like.

I'll try not to leave a huge comment here and trash today.com, because it does have a few good features, but I will say this: I had a today.com blog for about 6 mos. The constant changes in their network were always causing great upheaval. I never received much search engine traffic and they do not pay for traffic exchange traffic. You are not allowed to place any affiliate links on your pages and they will keep your blog and your content if you try to move from their network.

If you don't care about any of that then perhaps today.com is the way to go. I have realized recently that it is not for me. There are dozens of others out there that feel the same. Do a search for today.com exiles or you can read more about my experiences by clicking on my name.

As with Michelle and Laneerg I also had two blogs with Today.com for 8 months and first I want to say that they do no allow any advertising on their blogs that will make the blogger any money. weakness of g00gle pagerank: (1) only for spesific "keyword relevancy" to your "single" page, neither category, nor global site.
