So the 2013 events and races are being organised at this time of year.
Does anyone have any ideas of events or races they would like to see happening in the upcoming year?

The 2013 event list is already looking pretty good but if there is an idea that looks really good, i will have a look into it.

All of our hard work paid off and we managed to provide loads of entertainment to a wide variety of both locals and tourists alike. Next years' festival will include a paddling component, including a kayak and paddle-board demo along with the aforementioned sports; this should shape up to be a wildly successful ...

Now it isn't old in the terms that most of the old bikes out there will be, but if you look at the age of the bike with respect to the length of time I've been riding, it is ancient.

Checking in from Cache Creek (of all places).

This morning's Garnet Fire Interpretive Center trail-day went extremely well! Brent, Dino, Gary, John, Michelle, Pierre and I set upon finishing the trail that we'd begun last fall, managing to get it to about "80% complete".

It looks like one more short day of trail touch-ups, installation of a man-gate at the parking lot and relocation of the existing trail-head signage and the new route will be ready for prime time!

Nearly 100 water-shedding trail dips were added, loose boulders removed, random holes and ruts were smoothed out and innumerable branches were removed from the trail. The countless erosion-prevention techniques implemented will extend the life of WARD1 and Kraut for decades!

Hi everyone,

This Thursday is PACA's AGM (with potluck and movie). We will be recruiting for our 2012 executive. I am sending out job descriptions of our executive for you to read to see if you might be interested in helping. Each role is described with an approximate time obligation. You will see that most roles don't have a huge time commitment. This is definitely a case of many hands make light work!

Most of our executive is returning for another year. It's a fun and dedicated group ...

The wet spring of 2011 has found the field in a state of out of control weed growth and the course will need to be pounded down with some kind of extreme power mower in order for us to set the course this fall.

Today I went up and hiked what was once an access road from the Beaverdell Rd. down to the Ellis Canyon & Canyon Rim singletrack trail. This abandoned route is currently laden with deadfall and Oregon grape brush, but the trail bed beneath is in excellent condition and built on a mild pitch.

In 2012 PACA had determined that they wanted to sign a basic "Intro' to the Mice" route for new-ish riders and tourists alike. The suggestion was the Lookout Loop (aka; "The Ashtray).

I'd volunteered to create and ask Vance (or others) to erect said signage. Here is what I came up with in a few minutes of mulling... its not set in stone by any means, so have at it with your ideas, post some of your own signage ...

Wow - that must surely have been the first day of summer!

Finally got in and installed that little bridge on WARD1 and it turned out beautifully! This is the kinda' thing that I want to do a lot more in BC Park lands. These land managers greatly appreciate any help that they can get as they are crazily understaffed at the best of times - the the good juju generated by simple actions such as this will only serve to enhance trail user's dealings with Parks / Crown / Private land-owners.

Dino and I drove up to Vernon yesterday in order to hear the Tompson Okanagan Tourism Association's new ten-year plan for our region.

It turned out to be a somewhat extravagant presentation, held at what is surely one of Western Canada's most 'over the top' hotels; the Sparkling Hill Resort just shy of the City of Vernon; www.sparklinghill.com

In a nutshell; the concept is to see Thompson-Okanagan businesses that have historically been viewing each other as competition, to instead combine ...

Mice Trailhead Signage

So I finally "got the call" from John Glaspie, Recreation Officer for the Okanagan District in the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

We are officially allowed to create and post large trail-head signage at the Pearly Gate! (and maybe even at Rusty off Arawana and one at the Reservoir as well)

Yaaa! I've been chomping at the bit to get this ok'd by the Ministry ever since Vance stuck all of those little yellow signs throughout the area.

Weyerhaeuser speaking to PACA

This is an interesting one; Weyerhaeuser contacting us to inquire about trails in the areas that they are logging (!!!) Who woulda' thunk' it?!

I mean, I find it amazing and pleasing at the same time. If this is the kind of respect that the bike club is slowly gaining in the community; hell, the future looks brilliant! We've communicated and I've sent him all of the tracks for our trails in the area - which may or may not find Weyerhaeuser planning around our trails.

At any rate, its ...

Government Street Bike Lanes

Also at last night's Council meeting (Oct. 1), Councillor Judy Sentes gave a report on the recent meeting she attended with PIDA (Penticton Industrial Development Association). PIDA has continued concerns over the Government Street Bike Lanes. PIDA would like to be included in future planning of these bike lanes. The City's EDO (Economic Development Officer) will be discussing this with them.

That is at 1:11:05 if you want to hear for yourself.

In the Herald yesterday:

Penticton cycling plans taken to Victoria Subscriber.

Monday, 01 October 2012 02:00 Penticton Herald Staff.

City council hopes some provincial government help might boost efforts to develop Penticton as cycling destination.

Coun. Andrew Jakubeit met with Transportation Minister Mary Polak at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Victoria which wrapped up Friday.

Jakubeit pointed to Cycling Canada magazine which recently ranked Penticton as the No. ...

Lee Lau

I've never met Lee, but I've read his words many times over the years of perusing mountain bike riding / rides on the Web'. Lee is one of those most excellent dudes who likes to share trail love with others, so that they too can check out the amazing locations to ride - around the world, but specifically in BC. Lee's words are also a hint to others; document your travels so that others may also share the same wildly interesting, oftentimes remote locations 'out there'.

KVR Working Group - Public Open house

For the past year or so I've been participated in a think-tank of sorts which seeks to implement an alternative to the KVR for motorized recreational vehicles.

We'll be hosting a presentation of our concept to date, and seek input from the public on finessing it further. The event is scheduled to run between 6pm and 9pm on Tuesday, Sept. 18th, at the Naramata Centre.

This is your opportunity to shape the future of the KVR on the east side of the valley and we encourage you to participate!
