Uberman Sleep Schedule Day 4 & 5

I forgot to send a report yesterday so I will just clump both days into one blog. Yesterday I experienced a relapse and fell asleep for a good 4 hours after having been awake for 2 and feeling pretty good. Then bam... sudden crash. The rest of the day went fine (after having 8 hours of sleep). So back to the regular schedule today and things seems to be okay. I took a longer nap than usual this morning (around 45 minutes). Drank a rather strong cup of coffee about two hours ago which I think is going to prevent a nap in about 1 hour. I feel fine right now. I have noticed in "some" cases a bit of a euphoria at times. For example, while reading I felt quite clear and able to focus more than I usually can. But this was a one time event. I do feel quite focused right now.

I think the relapse could have something to do with this. We shall see about tomorrow. I'm hoping yesterday didn't ruin the first three days.

Uberman / Polyphasic Sleep Experiment Day 3

This is definitely the worst I have felt since trying this. Brick wall ahead and I have hit it straight on. My head is swimming, I'm tired and cannot think very straight. I relapsed a little just now with probably a 55 minute nap rather than a 30. Before that nap I was a zombie. After that nap I was worse. Most journals report Day 3 being difficult. They were right.

Awake: 4
Alert: 4

Uberman/Polyphasic Sleep Experiment Day 2

For those who are wondering what these threads mean here is a link to the topic in question

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep

I guess I would under the "Tri" Phasic cycle where I get a core amount plus two 20 minute naps. The idea is to maximize awake time and minimize sleep time, but not to minimize REM time. There are critics and there those who feel it can and does work and that there is more we can do with our bodies than just regulate sleep. But again, it's all very hypothetical and in the end I do have to realize I "could" be harming my body. But I'm confident in the hypothesis so I'm giving it a shot.

I'm on day 2. I can't tell at all if my naps are effective or if I am even falling asleep during them. I controlling the nap to 30 minutes period. This is 10 minutes more than the time indicated but I'm thinking I need the extra 10 to just relax enough to fall asleep.

Yesterday was worse than today but this early morning was rather harsh. I was really tired and literally forced myself to stay awake. The afternoon has been pretty good. I feel a "little" light header but not enough to make it impacting my daily schedule. I'm still capible to handling the normal day I usually handle.

So I would say between a 1 and 10 I feel around an 8.

Polyphasic Sleep Experiment [Day 1]

Okay... so.... here I am at day 1 and I'm light headed right now. Yeah... feeling a little zombish but nothing to bad. I have no idea if my second attempt at a nap took. I think it did so I think I'm good on that end. The first nap didn't take at all so I think I may have to have a third attempt around 5:00 if necessary. I will see just how tired I am by then.

Thinking I should maybe do a short run today. Get the heart pumping. At least a long walk. In any event. It's going pretty good and it's only day 1. I can see this getting difficult.

Had a rather interesting experience during my nap. I felt my body literally get very relaxed then suddenly my eyes just fluttered uncontrollably like my brain just initiated REM but I wasn't quite asleep yet. Felt really weird.

Polyphasic Sleep Experiment [Day 0]

I'm going to start a polyphasic sleep schedule today starting soon. I will sleep for 4.5 hours during the night then nap twice during the day for 30 minute each. This type of polyphasic sleep is called "Everyman" sleep. Not sure where the name means.

The point of the experiment is mostly curiosity. Although I certainly love the idea of 2.5 hours of extra time during the day. Also a little of me doesn't mind being a guinea pig to science as well. Also I have heard of some health benefits as well. I will have to make sure I maintain a healthy diet of vegetables and fruit from what I heard.

So let's start with some typical information

Age: 34
Current Weight: 260
Current Mood: Rather excited (hope I can sleep)
Had a serving of salad today with ranch. (I won't get detailed with meals. Just if I had vegetables or fruit so I can make sure I stay the course).

I will update this blog daily with my notes.
