In reply to PowerPoint 2007: Enhancing and Packaging a Presentation:

I work in the Dean's Office for Undergraduate Education. I often work on PowerPoint presentations for the Dean to use in fairly high-level meetings or seminars, many times presenting data in the form of line, bar, and/or pie charts. We're looking for ways to keep these presentations (usually 15 - 20 slides in length presented over a 20 to 30 minute period) lively and interesting, possibly by using custom animation or other techniques. I'm also interested in the "packaging" aspect since these presentations are often shared with others.

In reply to PowerPoint 2007: Enhancing and Packaging a Presentation:

I'm with the law school, and recently moved from a faculty position to a new position that is under the IT unit, working on educational technology. One of our goals is to help professors use technology better, and many think that should include using PowerPoint thoughtfully. I've refrained from using PowerPoint in my own teaching, and have seen the usual number of poor examples, as well as a few good ones. My first step is to refresh my memory on what the program can do, and then work to figure out what actually works in a law classroom. One thing for sure that will help is anything that breaks up the straight linear approach. Another will be using graphics for diagrams that used to go on the chalkboard, especially if there's a way to prepare the basic diagram and then add components based on student responses in class. (I don't even know whether that's possible, but in any event it's beyond my skill level.) I'm also interested in ways to make presentations available to students outside the live classroom; I'm just starting to experiment with Camtasia. Bottom line - anything you show me will be helpful.

However, everyone has designate rights which is causing a problem in that some people seem to be removing vacation entries. Can we allow everyone to post to this calendar but not make changes without approval from an 'admin' ?? Thanks.
