Creating Leads With Blogs

I get people asking me, what is the best traffic generation method? What is it that I do to create leads.

First of all, there is no standard answer to the best traffic generation method that will work equally well for everybody. Skills, consistent efforts, and the method's effectiveness are the determing factors for success...in any method.

However, you can't go wrong with blogging. Not only can you use it to attract prospects to your business, but a blog lets people know more about you as a person and a business owner...so it helps in building relationships with your potential prospects.

This is why I like blogging. It's also one of the major ways that I market online.

Blogs are also a neutral place to send prospects to learn more about you and what you do without having them to feel pressured to opt into something to learn more about your products and services.

Famed Internet marketer Perry Belcher likened blogs to a home. You meet people at a social networking event and then from there if they like you, you invite to your "home" (blog) to learn more about you and what you do.

And from there the person can decide if they want more information or if they want to buy into what it is you're selling.

You see, more and more people are getting wary of giving out their email address. Like who needs another email in their inbox?

Your prospects are making doubly sure they want to hear more about what it is you're offering before they give up their email address.

People want information; they want information that is going to solve a problem for them.

Buy me, buy me, buy me... doesn't work as well as it did several years ago. People want to know why they should entrust you and your product to solve their issues.

And this is where blogs can do an excellent job giving people the information they so desperately crave.

Blogs have become “mainstream media.” According to a recent study by Synovate and Marketing Daily, nearly 40% of Americans have visited a blog in the past year.

With the total U.S. population hovering around 307,000,000 people... That’s roughly 122,800,000 people! (and these numbers aren’t even counting the other 193 countries of the world!)

It's pretty mind-boggling, huh?

If you don’t have your own blog set-up and positioned where these people can see it... you're losing out on potential prospects for your business.

However, it's never too late to start a blog.

According to eMarketer, in 2009 an estimated 96.6 million U.S. internet users will visit (and read from) blogs at least once a month.

But wait until you hear this.

By the year 2013, eMarketer predicts that 128.2 million people, or...Over Half Of All U.S. Internet users will Be reading blogs at least once a month!

Which means one thing for you as a business owner...

When it comes to the “people helping other people learn” profession, it’s a bit like that. There are many terms used to describe the different players, and a lot of disagreement about what the terms mean and how they might differ. Some of the disagreement can stem from an attitude of self-importance by the various players.

The home business owner, looking to follow the oft-given advice to “find yourself a mentor” will likely be perplexed by the large number of terms used by those selling their services.

Here is a list of the many people who might help the entrepreneur get ahead [grouped for ease of reading-not significance]:

teacher, trainer, facilitator, educator, instructor, tutor
coach, adviser, counselor, mentor, guide
role model, exemplar, master performer
supervisor, boss, sponsor, partner, team

Consider the many ways in which people use (or perhaps misuse) the terms:

“I am a spiritual counselor-coach.”
“My boss is like a don, a godfather – he always looks after my best interests.”
“Bill Gates is my mentor; I’ve never spoken with him but I read everything he’s written.”
“My instructor emphasized: ‘I am here to train you, not to teach you!’ “
“I pay my life coach a lot of money, only to hear her say, ‘I can’t tell you what to do.’ “
What qualifies someone to say, “I am an internet marketing coach”?

The truth is that all of the terms listed above overlap somewhat. All of the players have a role in helping people learn. But there are some distinctions that can be made. This article will not likely settle any controversies about these roles, but it will help the home business owner think through the kinds of learning help available.

Beginning in the early 1970s, Margo Murray studied corporations to see how more experienced employees could mentor less experienced employees and thus improve their performance. These studies led to implementing facilitated mentoring programs which Margo wrote about in Beyond the Myths and Magic of Mentoring (1991). She began the book by differentiating three terms:

A sponsor may provide recommendations for advancement, introductions to influential people within a certain business or industry, provide public praise and support, and offer guidance regarding corporate culture and politics. A sponsor may also serve as a confidant. The relationship is informal and indefinite in duration. A person could have more than one sponsor. Learning from the sponsor is only a small part of the relationship.
A role model is someone that exhibits success at getting things done, exemplary behavior, and respected knowledge. The relationship is not only informal, but in most cases, the role model is not even aware of the individuals that specifically identify her as a role model. Learning from the role model is indirect as the learner observes the role model in order to emulate her.
A mentor may “carry out some or even all of the functions of the sponsor and role model in a relationship structured around the skills that the protege wants to develop.” (Murray, p. 12) The relationship is guided by a specific agreement. Other functions of the mentor may include: providing information about the company, tutoring specific skills, giving feedback on performance, providing advice during times of crisis for the protege, help with career planning. The mentor, in Murray’s case studies, is not typically the same as the individual’s boss, but rather some other experienced employee, and the mentor typically as only one protege at a time.

There are many definitions of a trainer and teacher. Here is how I compare the two roles: Both work with groups or individuals, guiding them through a structured learning activity. A trainer is generally more concerned with an outcome of improved skill performance (like math facts, soldering, selling); a teacher is generally more concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and understanding within a given field (like history, theory of operation, corporate policy). Obviously these roles overlap, even though one may predominate.

So Murray’s “mentor” will be a bit of a teacher, a trainer, a role model, and a sponsor. And perhaps more. On the other hand, while a teacher or trainer may at times take on the role of mentor for some students, that is not characteristic of the job or role of the teacher or trainer.

Many people use the term business mentor more or less synonymously with business coach. Increasingly, the definition of a coach is being guided by the standards of the International Coaching Federation: The ICF defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” As you can see, their definition is broad and inclusive. Their membership includes not only business coaches, but “life coaches,” family coaches, and career coaches. A Master Certified Coach credential with ICF (the uppermost of 3 ICF categories) pre-supposes that the individual has had at least 2500 hours of coaching experience, at least 35 clients, and a documented 200 hours of coach-specific course-work.

There are many excellent business coaches that do not have the ICF credentials or intensity of training required by the ICF, but as I mentioned, the trend is for people to ask about the credential.

Marcia Wieder- “America’s Dream Coach” – provides some additional role distinctions in her book Making Your Dreams Come True (1999). In one chapter she encourages business owners to create a “dreamteam” (what we might otherwise call a support team) in order to accelerate their movement toward attaining their dreams (goals). At a minimum, she advises that every dreamteam should have at least one mentor, one coach, and one partner. Here is how she differentiates these terms:

A mentor has experience and expertise in the same chosen field as the protege; it should be “someone who has been where you want to go, is still learning and growing, and is happy to share those experiences with you.”
A coach may not have experience in the same field as the protege, but “is someone who listens for what’s possible, helps you breakthrough when you’re stuck, and holds you accountable for doing what you said you were going to do.”
A partner is someone who “gives, receives, and shares equally with you.” (Wieder, pp 158-160) In terms of Bob Burg and Ivan Misner it is one of many people with whom you network. Wieder simply takes it a step further and suggests inviting specific people with whom to partner.

A home business entrepreneur rarely knows everything; more typically she is faced with daunting gaps in knowledge, skills, and experience required for implementing internet marketing strategies and other tasks. She may be expert in one area (or one hat, as Michael Gerber describes in The E-Myth Revisited) yet lacking competence in other areas. Consequently, an entrepreneur is faced with learning or failing. Where should she turn? In summary,

Look for trainers and mentors to facilitate learning in specific skills and tasks, perhaps involving internet marketing. The learning can take place through e-learning (videos and other online activities), over the phone, one-on-one and face-to-face, or in a virtual or physical classroom.
Look for coaches to facilitate learning about yourself – learning about the bigger picture of decision-making, confidence, goal setting, and action planning. The learning can take place one-on-one, either face-to-face or over the phone.
Look for sponsors, partners, and team members (people in your network) to help you get what learning cannot provide – the inside edge.
Look for skilled listeners. That’s one thing that a good trainer, mentor, and coach all have in common. Michael Oliver’s Natural Selling Approach is an excellent resource for home business newbies and leaders – his books and seminars help those who wish to develop their listening skills

When reading the advice to “find yourself a mentor,” it would be a mistake to think that it is always a long term relationship. It can be, and there are many famous examples of this. However, more typically it is of short duration; a relationship of 3 to 12 months. You may find the need for new mentors and coaches as your needs change and evolve.

Just keep in mind that what you call a trainer is someone else’s coach or mentor or tutor or… you get the idea.

Taking Time to Tackle Twitter

I only communicate in 140 characters. Who am I? Intellectually stymied. Just kidding!

Twitter seems so simple: communications are brief, setting up an account takes 5 minutes or less, and sending a message is simple enough. But what is it? Controversy! It’s social media – so it’s not for business – yes it is - it’s microblogging – no it isn’t – just tell people what you are doing – no! no one cares – it’s getting followers – bragger! – it’s whatever you want it to be – probably.

The question is, what do I want it to be for me? Do you need Twitter, or want to use Twitter? Then what do you want it to be for you? To answer that, one has to know the various possibilities – what CAN Twitter do for me?

I am relatively new to Twitter (Jan 09) and I have two accounts (thinking of making it 3). I have a pretty good idea of how I want to use Twitter, but so far I am a newbie, no question. I decided to get serious. To “study” this. And that’s the paradox, like anything else, it takes time to learn. So no matter the 140 characters on Twitter, I am spending a few days immersing myself, taking a little time to get organized.

Last night I put TweetDeck on my computer. Wow! Whoa! What a difference in making sense of it all. I’m also reviewing some tutorials, video trainings, and articles of theory and practical tips.

I will list a few here, but there is too much for this post. I am creating a reference page and making it available to those on our TIPS (for growing your own home business) Newsletter. Sign up if you like.

Health Business Opportunity: How to Choose the Right One

Choosing a health business opportunity that is a right fit for you is no easy task unless you have certain criteria in place first.

The nutritional market is very lucrative and very competitive. With so many companies and products to choose from, it's almost an impossible decision to make.

What if you choose a less-than-honest company? What if you choose a business that goes out of business soon after you get in? What if you choose a product that doesn't leave up to its claims? What if you choose a company that turns out to be run by shady characters?

The list is endless of the things you need to watch out for when choosing a health business opportunity. You definitely want to steer clear of anything that sounds like it might not be a legitimate home based business.

Every company should put the focus on its products, not on recruiting more people into the business. Selling products are the way a company expands and if a company is putting all the emphasis on getting people "in" then it may be just a front to a Ponzi scheme.

Nothing gets the attention of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) more than a company that is paying people to get other people to join it. It's a money shuffling game and companies that partake in this activity eventually get shut down – taking all your money and hard efforts along with it. And distributors of these kinds of companies can be prosecuted.

So in a nutshell, you want to make sure the product is a viable product and that the company puts most of its focus on the product and not on getting people "in."

Any good health business opportunity has to have a good management team running the company. The company at the very least should've been founded by people who have had success running a network marketing company.

Whether you choose a public company or a private company you should know that if you choose a public company its financial "health" is made public, however, as a distributor for this kind of company, know that you are not the number one priority in the eyes of the company – its shareholders are.

What this means for you as a distributor of a publicly traded company is that if the shareholders want the company to cut expenses and increase profits (which is what any shareholder wants), the company will not think twice about changing the compensation plan to benefit the company and to please their shareholders.

You also want to look at the length of time a company has been in business. It's no secret that brand new companies i.e. ground-floors, companies in pre-launch are riskier to get involved in than an older established company.

Lastly, you want to look at the compensation plan. Some plans favor people who can move a whole lot of product, whereas some plans favor the average part-timer.

Overall, when looking into a health business opportunity there are several things you want to keep in mind before deciding on a company. These include looking at the founders and or the people running the company, the product, the length of time the company has been in business, and the compensation plan.

If you do your due diligence and take the time to research the companies you're looking into, you'll reduce the risks and the chances that you'll run into scams.

You can't rely solely on old school network marketing ideologies, and techniques, if at all. In the technological age we live in, there are better and faster ways to achieve massive success.

If you're not having the prosperity you deserve, you may want to take a look at your beliefs.

If you're betting all your money that the following myths will work for you and those you bring into your business, than you better go take a look at the high failure rate in the home business industry before you go broke. Here are some myths that may be draining your wallet - literally.

Myth # 1: You have to recruit your family into your opportunity

In the early days, and even now, some people think that they've got to get their family into their business and on their products regardless of whether or not their family members are qualified or even interested in what they have to offer.

They feel that their family has an obligation to be involved in some aspect of their business.

This way of thinking and marketing can be counterproductive in many instances.

First of all, when you approach your family about your opportunity or product, there's a high chance that you will get your offer rejected, not to mention ridiculed.

You then immediately begin to then think that there's something wrong with the product, the company, or even you.

Recruiting your family can be the worse thing to do, especially when there are better qualified people looking for an opportunity.

It's kind of shocking in a way, but not really. Let's face it, some people do not have what it takes to succeed. There are people who don't want to run a business.

Network marketing success basically comes down to skills and desire. There's many desire-less people walking around on the face of the earth. I'm sure you know a few of these people.

They invest their time into complaining about their situation rather than trying to take action to change it. Many of these people are family and friends, which brings us back to myth #1.

If a person has not shown any desire, nor taken any action to improve their lives, why would they be a good business partner in any business, let alone yours?

Marketing skills are essential, unless you want to build your business from your tired and weary warm market or a lead list.

These skills can be learned if you have desire to achieve network marketing success. Lesson two: Stop trying to sugarcoat the truth. Not everyone can succeed in this industry.

When you set standards and become clearer as to the type of person you want in your business, your business will take on a life of its own.

When you combine that with real marketing (not the type of stuff your grandfather did in his Amway days), your business will reach new heights that you never dreamt of.

With so many network marketing trainings and trainers to choose from, how do you decide?

P. T. Barnum once said there's a sucker born every minute. Well, in network marketing, it seems like there's a marketing system or trainer born every minute

If you plan to make network marketing your livelihood, then it's to your benefit to do your due diligence and find the network marketing training that's going to take you to the next level in your business.

When it comes to choosing what kind of training to follow or marketing system to use, you want to look at the person behind the training/system.

What's their history? Do they have any experience in network marketing-past or present?

So, in a nutshell, you want to look at the credibility of the person behind the training.

The second important thing you'll want to pay attention to is the material they're teaching you.

Are they teaching you about offline/online marketing techniques? Downline-building techniques? Lead generation techniques?

Network marketing training can incorporate some or all of those, but there should be a component of personal development thrown in.

The reason being is that most entrepreneurs coming into the home business industry are coming from the job sector.

Entrepreneurs and employees don't think alike, not to mention there are many ups and downs and risks in business that you just don't find in a job.

Your strong mindset will be the thing that will carry you through.

In addition to knowing what you'll be taught by the network marketing trainer, you must find out if what they teach has been implemented by others successfully.

You should be ready to incorporate what it is they're teaching you, or else you've just wasted your money.

The next thing you'll want to know is how the trainer is going to deliver the training to you. Are they giving you your training via e-books, training calls, website, emails, webinars, or real physical products?

How best do you learn? You'll want to make sure the trainer offers the medium in which you best learn…whether it's audios, videos, books, etc.

The last thing you'll want to know about the network marketing training is if there's an affiliate program or marketing system attached to it; if you find benefit in the training you got, then you'll want to share and tell others about it and be rewarded for doing so.

Choosing a network marketing training program isn't as cut and dry as you probably thought, but with the right criteria as a starting point, it makes choosing the right one that much easier.

Everyone's looking for a way to put their business on autopilot so they can spend their time doing the most important stuff in their business. This is where an automated marketing system comes in. There is really such a thing...right?

Network marketers are notorious for trying to re-invent the wheel. I mean there's really nothing wrong with that right?

Well, a few years ago it was Mike Dillard who changed the way people looked at network marketing.

Then it was Norbert Orlewicz, a student of Mike Dillard, who decided that perhaps network marketers should lay off re-inventing wheels for awhile and concentrate on the things that matter most...things that make you money also known as business building activities.

This is where Norbert and his co-horts decided to make an automated marketing system so that network marketers didn't have to waste a lot of time trying to build lead capture pages from scratch...

And spending hours and hours doing endless follow-up calls on people who waste your time, you know "aren't mlm's illegal?" "Is it a pyramid scheme?" "I was only looking for a work at home job"...

If you've ever spent anytime calling opportunity leads, then you know what a BIG time waster it can be.

An automated system should do a good job of sorting and sifting through your prospects. Heck it should target the right kind of prospects to begin with. And oh, so many systems don't which is why you're probably on your 3rd or 10th system!

And yes, I'm "outting" the marketing system industry, because if you've been around the 'net as long as I've have you know how they getcha in...and then spit out you out - usually more broke and broken-hearted.

The Money is in the List

Any good automated marketing system is going to let you build your list from within the system with your autoresponder, not the system's.

List-building is a very important part and do I dare say critical part of your Internet network marketing business success.

This is why I've had to say good-bye to other systems in the past because it wasn't optimum for online network marketing.

Sure, there are other systems out ther that are "easier" to use and "cheaper" to use than MLM Lead System Pro(MLSP)...

However, what good is using an easier and cheaper system if doesn't work to give you the best chance of success online?

If you want to truly automate your marketing, then you have to use a system that is designed for such a task.

You can wish your system to do remarkable things, but if it's not designed to do them, you're just wasting your efforts...money....and time.

For an automated marketing system I recommend MLSP. I can't think of another system that is designed to grow with you as you grow your business.

Now, if you have no desire to grow your business, well I guess any system will do.

You have a network marketing business. Either you're not getting enough people looking at your website or you don't have enough money to keep advertising the way you have been.

And these "systems" owners and creators know and feel the desperation you're feeling...and in turn use it to their every advantage.

Hey, they're in business to make m-o-n-e-y! Plain and simple. And if you throw out all your common sense and intuition when you see "we will build your downline for you" "Get hundreds of sign-ups in 30 days!" and other such nonsense...well, you're kind of asking for it.

I can't tell you how many people ask me, "does it work?" or I get people who have signed up for a system and then say "It doesn't work"....but yet they never bothered even logging into the back office and taking the training!

It makes me chuckle and sad at the same time. Because each time you "give up", you make building a business that much harder for yourself. You're creating failure after failure after failure and a pattern is being set.

So, back to the original question, what can't MLM Lead System Pro and other network marketing systems do for you?

Systems are NOT magic! They will not do EVERYTHING for you as you sit back and do nothing. If you're laughing at that one, don't...there are people who think that just because they sign up for a system, everything is done. The sign ups come rolling in and so does the "dough." I blame how some of these systems are marketed towards network marketers...but then again, remember how I said you never give up what you know for what you don't know or sounds too incredible to believe? Well this falls into that category.

No one can guarantee you sign-ups! This is one of the "hot" selling points of a lot of the lower end systems. Sure you can get a lot of people into some of these systems if you do the "thing"...but you'll soon see that a lot of these people want a free ride. They won't upgrade. They won't buy anything...let alone buy into your business...unless it's free. If you want a system to target these groups of people, you will have an uphill battle trying to convert them into buyers.

Network marketing systems do not market themselves! You must get your system in front of people who are more likely to want what that system offers. What are the system's selling points? Who are good candidates for your system? What problem will that system solve? These are the questions you must be able to answer if you want success with any system.

MLM Lead System Pro and other systems of that ilk, all need the "thing" to make it work. And that "thing" is marketing. If you're not able to get your system in front of a lot of targeted eyeballs, you're gonna have a very difficult time with your system.

If you've been struggling with a system, (or without a system), you need to re-evaluate what you're doing and how you're marketing...and take a good look at the system you're using if you're using one.

There you have it. What systems can't do for you.

But if you're wondering what they're good for...

I can't speak for all the systems on the Internet, however...

MLM Lead System Pro and the few comparable systems are designed to do two things: create leads by targeting those people who are familiar with network marketing and have "bought" into it and secondly, generate upfront money to help you fund your business.

It's really that simple. But if you have un-realistic expectations as mentioned above, you'll be like the gentleman who told me, "It doesn't work." Put the blame not on the system, but on yourself.

If you're not willing to put forth the effort into your business, you need to re-evaluate whether or not you should even be in business.

Talk to the affiliate or sponsor of the system you're looking at before you buy into it.

Good quality systems work and work well...so choose wisely. Once you put forth consistent action and effort you'll start to see results. And that I can guarantee.

Facebook Marketing...It's More Than You Think

Facebook marketing can give you lots and lots of traffic...but unfortunately most marketers miss how to tap into it all. Despite what you've probably been told, Facebook marketing is more than just going to Facebook and signing up for an account...way more.

I remember in my early days of learning about social media marketing, a lot of so-called experts were holding Facebook trainings, or what they say was Facebook training.

Why Is there So Many People Jumping On the MLM Lead System Pro Bandwagon?

Many a people jumped on the MLM Lead System Pro bandwagon as soon as it came out because it was different...and new; like a new car where you want to be the first on the block to get one.

After the novelty wears off, what are you stuck with? All smoke and mirrors or a decent network marketing system that does what it says it does?

Well, I have to be honest. After being an Internet marketer for awhile and reviewing various products in the Internet and network marketing niche, you're bound to run into products that "stink"…

So, I've always like to focus on both the good and bad points. There isn't a perfect product or service on the market that doesn’t have some flaw in it somewhere, right?

And second, I don't like to waste my precious effort and website space promoting junk, or reviewing things that just, for lack of a better word, s-u-c-k. Why bother?

But if there's something that has value and not another "copy cat" product that's no better than the original, then there’s something that has to be said.

As a marketing system, MLM Lead System Pro does what it says it does...and what every effective marketing system should do.

Well, now it’s on a level playing field with a handful of other multi level marketing systems.

Now, there has to be something special about this particular system, that made lots of people gravitate toward it; not only the people who like new toys and has to be the first to get one, but seasoned internet network marketers.

And that something special could be summed up in two words: branding and attraction marketing.

These are the two areas Internet marketing, namely social media marketing is going and where it has been going for some time.

Because network marketers asked for a complete brandable marketing system that does all the things the big Internet gurus did to get where they are (list-building, tracking, split testing)...the call was answered with MLM Lead System Pro.

Although many people have jumped on the bandwagon, I would take a wild guess that some people have fallen off...because ultimately this system wasn't right for them at this particular time in their business.
